Hotels need not let the bed bugs bite

CTS/Venteco’s non-toxic Cryonite pest control solution can save hotels from the economic cost and embarrassment of bed bugs.

Following the disclosure last week that a prestigious London hotel* is facing a multi-million dollar claim for compensation after guests were attacked by bed bugs, Venteco is this week showcasing its unique Cryonite technology, which has been proven to eradicate successfully bed bugs, at the Hospitality Show 2007.

This first commercial hotel deployment of Cryonite technology, which freezes pests using a patented carbon dioxide snow, has taken place at a major London hotel through Venteco’s distribution partner RIWA Ltd, following trials carried out by Insect Investigations Limited, an independent pest control research firm, achieved a 100 per cent kill rate of bed bug adults, nymphs and eggs. Venteco is also engaged in a substantial trial scheme using Cryonite technology with a major international hotel chain.

The incidence of bed bugs is reported to have been rising worldwide over the last decade, while they are also reported to be more difficult to eradicate using conventional insecticides.

Cryonite offers significant operational and economic advantages to hotel operators as – unlike with the use of traditional pesticides – the hotel can re-let the room immediately thereby avoiding costly closures and lost revenues. Cryonite can also be used a preventative solution as hotels are able to treat rooms that are potentially at risk from bed bug attack.

Dr Peter Cottee, managing director of RIWA Ltd, which is a partner to Venteco in the UK and is showing Cryonite at the Hospitality Show 2007, said : “As recent events have shown, the hotel industry is being hit hard with a huge increase in bed bug activity, which can prove both embarrassing and expensive.
